Athens Digital Health Week

In the panel discussion “Fighting Cancer by Creating Synergies in Europe,” Dimitris Tsikerdis from IDIKA S.A. presented the ORION Joint Action under the title: “Cancer Inequalities Registry: The ORION Joint Action.”

The presentation took place during the Athens Digital Health Week (ADHW) from 27 – 31 January 2025 at the Royal Olympic Hotel. ADHW 2025 aims to provide a space for showcasing important work, particularly from European projects, enabling networking opportunities among like-minded professionals, and offering deeper insights into developments in digital health across Europe and beyond.

During his presentation, Mr. Tsikerdis outlined the core objectives and actions of the Joint Action, funded by the European Commission through the EU4Health program. The OriON Joint Action aims to contribute to innovation and deliver tangible benefits to citizens across all European countries, particularly cancer patients. By providing recommendations, it will support the monitoring of the European Cancer Beating Plan (EBCP), ensuring its processes, outcomes, and impacts are effectively assessed.

A key anticipated impact of ORION is the measurable reduction of inequalities in cancer prevention and care across the EU. The initiative seeks to bridge gaps in cancer diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship, ultimately improving healthcare accessibility and outcomes.

Mr. Tsikerdis also provided an update on the progress of the program to the specialized audience attending the event. He highlighted the major milestones and deliverables that have been successfully completed and elaborated on the next planned steps for the Joint Action, that supports the EBCP.

The EBCP stands as a significant effort in the fight against cancer, ensuring that all European citizens benefit from equitable and high-quality cancer care.
