As part of the OriON Joint Action, two foresight scenario-building workshops were held in November, focusing on the Use of AI & Generative AI for Knowledge Management in Cancer Care & Research.” These sessions explored how digital innovation can strengthen the use of evidence from the European Beating Cancer Plan (EBCP) and support more effective, equitable cancer control across Europe.
The first workshop on 3 November 2025 set the scene by presenting the context, scoping review findings, and trend analysis on the factors influencing the uptake of AI and GenAI in cancer care and research. Participants discussed opportunities, challenges, and emerging developments shaping the future of digital transformation in oncology.
The second workshop on 17 November 2025 moved into foresight mode. It presented a set of foresight scenarios for future implementation in cancer research and care.
These scenarios were built on insights from the scoping review and trend analysis, exploring how AI and Generative AI could transform cancer knowledge management in the years ahead.
A central focus was the use of evidence and outputs from the EBCP to support smarter, more equitable cancer control.
These forward-looking discussions contribute to the #JAOriON work on digital innovation, evidence use, and future-ready cancer policy.
